German Producer Savas Pascalidis knocks out 12 DJ-friendly cuts in his latest longplayer, spanning multiple genres and styles in the process. Nuclear Rawmance is a full length for every season, springboarding off of the success of Figure SPC's Web of Fear (the title track being present on Rawmance) and Deep Inside Your Eyes (also present). Having additionally founded Lasergun, UFO and Sweatshop, Pascalidas is rapidly cementing his position as a force of some repute.
Rawmance kicks things off with the nine minute epic Logic State, a thick, juicy cut of warehouse tech that expands slowly with power-packed drums and rising synth keys. A watery clap winds the track down into the dub-esque Delta Ray and funky hooks of Get Down, both strong tracks of their respective styles. Maybe Pascalidis is just showing off, but the guy can bridge a style. There's very little downtime between tracks, which makes adapting to the different styles a particularly easy (and enjoyable) experience.
Funk shifts to crunchy, spaced out minimal in Sonic Groove, which in turn transitions into the exceedingly Euro synthiness of Manipulator. That jumps back over to some deep hooks and gurgling low end in Voyetra, then kicks down some Daft Punk style Detroit tech-house in the satisfyingly funked out Echoplex. Magic Orchestra goes further into the Detroit style with a sexy analog accompaniment to its bouncy clap, then chills out with some funky slow bass and 80's inspired chimes in Interspace. This is when Rawmance digs into Pascalidas' back catalog, rocking out Web of Fear from his 2009 EP of the same name and closing with the nightmarish dance floor banger Deep Inside Your Eyes. Flash Point bridges the two as a middleground minimal dance track that serves its purpose by transitioning from the rolling hills of Web's synth into the floor slaughter of Deep Inside.
The most shocking thing about Rawmance is how cohesive the sound is. Sure, the style is all over the board. Sure, you're jumping in and out of genres every six or seven minutes. But the longplayer has a real quality to it, as well as a slew of practical applications for DJs. These tracks are begging to be mixed and remixed, and with the rather eclectic selection there's literally something for everyone to sink their teeth into.
