Audio Injection’s The Way I Am is a compilation of various mixes that employ the same signature Droid vocal sample throughout various manifestations to varying degrees of effectiveness. There is something here for everyone with each remixer offering their own distinct interpretation based around the gritty vocals.

The original mix plays with the ideas of somber minimal and all-out pandemonium while maintaining a steady balance of power the whole time. “The Way I Am” focuses the listener’s attention to a mixture of different elements whether it be the chaotic banging of cylindrical stabs or the crushing presence of the bass coupled with piercing hand claps. Acid Circus presents an uneasy tech house mix that is a nice complement to the original if you are looking for something a little more detached and filthy. Miro Pajic contributes the most interesting mix on the EP and at 9:47, the most delectable. Pajic utilizes an incredibly slow build that sends his mix dangerously out of orbit. Monoloc’s remix is by far the most unrelenting with reverb crashes that actually startled me as I was listening to it several times. The last contribution by Rene Walther sounds completely submerged in unnatural chemicals and uses the vocals as more of a tool, cutting and splicing until the inevitable reveal. However, until the beeping dirge commences in the latter half, I can see this mix being overlooked due to its lower amount of intensity.

Fans of Droid and their parties will be happy to see this staple being released with some impressive remix work. Though it does sound somewhat limited by the comparable perspective of the participants involved, each mix does supply enough character to provide different uses on the dance floor.
